Nguyen Tien Hai, Chairman of the province’s People’s Committee, has directed the province’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to choose the units who can complete the project on schedule.

The department, which will be provided a fund of VND 2 billion (USD 87,205) for dyke maintenance, will work with localities on reviewing the status of eroded areas and erosion-prone areas.  

The new embankments will include a 900m-long section on Southern Da Bac Island in Tran Van Thoi district’s Khanh Binh Tay commune, and other sections totaling a length of 1,200m in Tran Van Thoi district’s Khanh Binh Tay and Khanh Hai communes.

Erosion has occurred along 2km of riverbanks and affected 75 houses in the province.

Natural disasters have caused property damage worth more than VND 5.6 billion (USD 246,000) this year, according to the province’s steering committee for flood and storm control and prevention, natural disaster mitigation, search and rescue.
