Artistic exchange marks the Mau Than Offensive in Spring 1968
PANO – An artistic exchange, themed “Half a century – A spring”, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Mau Than General Offensive and Uprising in spring 1968 was held on January 13 in Hanoi by Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Union with the participation of female historical witnesses and women in the city.
In a cozy atmosphere, female combatants and historical witnesses shared their touching stories of the historic event 50 years ago. All of them affirmed the strength of solidarity as well as the great support of local people which were one of decisive factors to the success of the Mau Than General Offensive and Uprising in spring 1968. The success contributed to breaking down enemy troops’ will and inspiring the revolutionary spirit of all of the people in South Vietnam.
Than Thi Thu, Head of Ho Chi Minh Municipal Party Committee’s Information and Education Commission said that she could not forget the image of soldiers wearing broad-brimmed hats and rubber sandals and holding their rifles firmly while fighting on Sai Gon streets.
A former female underground fighter, Vu Minh Nghia shared her feelings when she received the mission. She added that all members in her team demonstrated their great determination to fight. Meanwhile, Le Hong Quan recalled the time when she joined the battle and was captured and tortured barbarically by the enemy.
The Mau Than Offensive in Spring 1968 is a symbol of iron will of the Vietnamese soldiers and people and lessons drawn from it bear valuable educational wisdom for the present and future generations to learn.
