PANO - 60,000 youths in Ho Chi Minh City and 250 others from Thanh Hoa Province have actively joined the green summer campaign 2013 launched by the youth union organization.
Accordingly, the volunteers will raise local people’s awareness on laws, environmental protection, civilized lifestyle building, traffic safety and order in each ward and district of the city, and another 16 provinces, as well as in Laos’ localities.
Moreover, they will help build rural traffic works and friendship houses; take care of policy beneficiaries and present scholarships and computers to poor students in remote localities.
Right after the opening ceremony on July 14th, over 4,000 volunteers in Ho Chi Minh City helped clean up 7 canals of Saigon River, collect waste for recycling, plant 12,000 trees, release fish in canals and assist traffic police in traffic control.
Meanwhile, volunteers in Thanh Hoa Province and local youths in four impoverished villages of Cha Lan, Poong, Doan Ket and Pieng Tat in Muong Lat district have carried out the program of forestation, opened a training course on technological transfer and preventing drug-related crime and prostitution, provided reproductive health counselling, and presented gifts to policy beneficiaries and poor households.
