As instructed by the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), VTI Company and its partners, including Chunghwa Telecom, KT Corporation, NTT Com signed a contract to build an international submarine fiber-optic cable line, "Asia-Pacific Gateway" (APG), in Beijing, on December 20th.

APG is a submarine cable system which directly connects 9 countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific region, including China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, in order to meet the growing demand of additional capacity and diversity of the current cable system.

With a total capacity up to 54,8 Tbps through the optic-converted technology of 40 Gygabite/second (Gbps), an advanced system with digital coherent detection technology (DCD) and optical add-drop multiplexing(OADM), APG allows for the future system to be upgraded to 100G to meet increasing demands for transmission. In addition, APG is expected to increase safety and avoid dangerous areas by an intelligent groundwater routing systems.

The APG project, at a cost of more than USD$500million, will provide a high-speed, direct and effective broadband for customers. APG will significantly increase telecommunications capacity in Asia to meet increasing demands for mobile and Internet markets.
