PANO - The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee held a ceremony on March 21st in Hanoi to honor Vietnam's 10 Outstanding Young Faces in 2015. The People's Army Newspaper would like to introduce them to readers.
1. Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Thanh Luan
Sen. Lt. Tran Thanh Luan is a pilot flying an SU-30MK2 fighter in Fleet 1, Regiment 935, Division 370 of the Air Defence and Air Force Service.
He finished training at the Air Force Officer Training School in the first position and was one among six young pilots assigned to combat units to fly Su-30MK2s. He now has over 450 flying hours on various aircraft, such as Iak-52, L-39, and Su-30MK2. He also completed the program of flight training of Vietnam's Air Force with excellent results.
As one of the 10 Vietnamese Outstanding Young Faces, Luan held that alongside honour is responsibility, thus he and his comrades would do their utmost to fulfill all assigned missions, contributing to firmly protecting the national sovereignty at sea and in the sky.
2. Dr. Tran Ha Lien Phuong
Dr. Tran Ha Lien Phuong, a lecturer from the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the Ho Chi Minh City-based Vietnam National University's International University, is the first female Vietnamese scientist to receive the International Rising Talent award from the L'Oreal-UNESCO program.
She was honored for her project on the development of fucoidan-based polymeric micelles for cancer diagnosis and treatment, which will reportedly help make the treatment cheaper and more effective.
3. Maths student Nguyen The Hoan
Nguyen The Hoan from Thai Binh province was known as "the golden boy" of Vietnam's mathematics, after he clinched a gold at the 2015 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
Born in 1997 in a poor village in the northern province of Thai Binh, Hoan felt his parents' hardship in his childhood. Therefore, he has always tried his best in learning and was keen on maths.
Hoan passed the entrance exams to three high schools for gifted students after graduating from junior high school in the summer of 2012. One of them is in Thai Binh province while the two others are the Hanoi National University of Education and Hanoi University of Science (HUS).
Totally committed to supporting Hoan to study in Hanoi, his parents have worked as construction workers in Hanoi for the last two years to earn enough money to send their son to high school.
The boy is trying his best in his last year of high school to achieve his important goal, getting a full college scholarship abroad.
4. Police Captain Ngo Ngoc Tran
Captain Ngo Ngoc Tran is Deputy Head of the Department 4 of the Department of Cyber Security under the Ministry of Public Security. Born in 1984, he has had a special passion for Information Technology since his childhood.
He has gained many feats of arms when participating in major investigations related to high-tech crime.
As one of 10 Vietnamese Outstanding Young Faces in 2015, Tran shared that he was honored when receiving the award and thought to be more active to make greater contribution in the time to come, deserving of the expectation of his leaders and comrades and the people.
5. Young businesswoman Dinh Thi Bich Chau
Ms. Dinh Thi Bich Chau, Director of Hoan Chau Investment Co. Ltd., was honored as one of the nine excellent young entrepreneurs and one of the five most typical young entrepreneurs of Ho Chi Minh City in 2012.
With the slogan “Professional Makes Difference”, Ms. Chau always looks for differences to help Hoan Chau to stand firmly in the market and to achieve significant accomplishments. With VND 15 billion in 2008, her firm’s turnover reached VND 400 billion in 2012, contributing to bringing a stable income for 300 full-time workers and over 2,000 migrant workers.
Apart from operating and developing a strong business, Ms. Chau also actively took part in social activities, such as donating money for the treatment of needy children and visiting and giving gifts to the households affected by flooding and storms in Southwestern Vietnam, to name but a few.
6. Tennis player Ly Hoang Nam
2015 was a memorable year for top Vietnamese tennis player Ly Hoang Nam when he won the young men’s doubles championship at Wimbledon at the age of 19. With this achievement, Nam was the first Vietnamese player crowned champion at a Grand Slam (Level Junior).
He ranked in 915th place in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Rankings in the first month of 2016. This is the first year for Ly Hoang Nam as a professional tennis player. Nam’s goal this year is to get into the world’s top 500 leading tennis players.
7. Singer Ha Anh Tuan
Ha Anh Tuan is a former student at Ho Chi Minh City-based Le Hong Phong High School for Gifted Students. He was one of the city's three best students in chemistry. When he was at high school, Tuan has actively joined art activities held by his school and the city. He won the male singers' first prize at a singing contest for students in 2001, and the first prize for a solo performance at the city's singing contest for students in 2002.
He started his career as a professional singer in 2006, after he was ranked among the three leading positions at the "Sao Mai diem hen," a prestigious singing contest in Vietnam. Tuan is one of the few Vietnamese singers who make active contributions to social activities. He is now the ambassador of the Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund, member of the Ho Chi Minh City's Patronage Association for Poor Patients and many other social organizations.
8. Student Le Yen Thanh
Le Yen Thanh has received over 100 awards and medals in Information Technology (IT). When he was at high school, he won many IT prizes at the provincial and national levels.
During his first two academic years at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences, he also demonstrated his IT talents by winning many prizes at domestic and international competitions.
Notably, he is the founder of Busmap, an online map that helps people quickly find bus routes in the city with any internet-connected device. His software was used by the city’s relevant agency.
9. Nguyen Thuy Tien

Nguyen Thuy Tien, born in 1988, continues the job of her sister Nguyen Khanh Thuong (known as Thuong Sobey), who died of breast cancer. Tien is now running the Breast Cancer Network Vietnam (BCNV).
Before her sister’s death, Tien and her sister understood well the situation Vietnamese women have to face when diagnosed with breast cancer. Therefore, they worked to provide information related to treatment, healthcare and more for the patients and their families.
Their BCNV was recognized as part of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) in 2014.
10. Farmer Phan Thanh Sang
Phan Thanh Sang, with special passion with flowers, is now Vice President of the Da Lat Flowers Association. He achieved success with his business, contributing to popularizing the Da Lat flowers around the world.
