The Vatican’s non-resident representative to Vietnam, Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, visited the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on September 3.

At a reception for the Archbishop, Vice Chairman of the Thua Thien-Hue provincial People’s Committee, Ngo Hoa, highlighted the fine relationship between the Hue Archdiocese and the local administration and praised the clergy's contributions to social activities in the province as well as their efforts to implement State laws and the Party’s policies and guidelines.

Mr Hoa asked Mr Girelli to pay more attention and make more contributions to the development of the Hue Catholic Church.

Archbishop Girelli said he was impressed by the development and natural beauty of Hue, where he was visiting for the first time. He also hoped that Hue will continue preserving its cultural traditions and historical value recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage site.

Mr Girelli acknowledged the attention the local administration has given to the Catholic Church and the role the Hue Archbishop has played in developing the fine relationship between the Hue Archdiocese and the local administration.

He asked provincial leaders to create more favourable conditions for parishioners to practice their religion and said he hopes Thua Thien-Hue will reach its goal of becoming a centrally-run city in the near future.
