Two Vietnamese sailors were killed and four others were injured when a fishing boat from the Republic of Korea caught fire at the port of Montevideo in Uruguay on March 3.
The Montevideo port authorities and the vessel’s agent said that of the 40 crew of the fishing boat Jung Woo III, half were Vietnamese. The fire, broke out at 4: 15 (local time), also injured two Chinese crew members. An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently under way.
The other vessel of the same company Jung Woo II, had caught fire in waters southeast of New Zealand, taking the lives of three Vietnamese fishermen aboard, they added.
Immediately after the incident, the Vietnamese embassy’s officials in Argentina and Uruguay contacted the Uruguayan authorities and sent a team to identify the dead and visit the injured.
