PANO – The Song Thu One-member Co. Ltd., under the General Department of National Defence Industry, yesterday handed over the HSV- 6613 oceanographic ship named after the Professor and Academician, Tran Dai Nghia, to the Navy Arm in Da Nang City.

Present at the ceremony was Major-General Pham Ngoc Minh, Deputy-Commander and Chief-of-Staff of the Vietnam Arm.

The new ship, at 66.3m long, 13.2m wide and 6.5m high, was started building in July, 2008 and launched in October, 2010 by the Song Thu Company, following the design of the Dutch Damen Group, meeting all demands set by the Vietnam Register and Lloyd's Register Group as well as the latest international maritime conventions.

With four diesel engines and 5,000 nautical miles operating range, the Tran Dai Nghia ship can operate continuously over 60 days and nights at narrow water and 12-level wind forces.

The operation of the ship will help the Navy Arm research and build up the Vietnam waters’ nautical charts, making contributions to surveying, exploiting, managing and protecting the national sea resources.
