PANO - A delegation of the Vietnamese Government’s Special Mission, led by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung, Deputy Defence Minister and head of the Mission, paid a visit on June 18th to Bounnhang Vorachith, Vice President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

At the reception, General Cung briefed the Lao Vice President on the results of the 18th Conference of special missions of the two governments in Vientiane, and thanked the Lao Party, State, Government, Army and people for their assistance to Vietnamese search teams in searching and repatriating the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Laos.

Thanks to the assistance, Vietnamese search teams have repatriated more than 16,000 sets of remains of Vietnamese martyrs from Laos. He also said that the Vietnamese Government hopes to receive further support from the Lao side to seek and repatriate more remains of martyrs in the coming time.

For his part, Bounnhang Vorachith warmly welcomed the Vietnamese delegation and affirmed that searching and repatriating remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts is also the noble political mission of Laos and its citizens, and this is a chance for Lao people to pay deep gratitude to Vietnamese people for their sacrifice for Lao independence. The Lao Vice President said that the Lao Party, State, Government, Army and people will create favourable conditions for the Vietnamese side to speed up the search for martyrs’ remains.

The same day, the delegation visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos.
