Vietnam will do its utmost to foster the strategic partnership with Belgium and the European Commission in all fields of mutual interest, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung while receiving the new Belgian Ambassador to Vietnam Hubert Cooreman in Hanoi on December 5.
PM Dung spoke highly of the recent working visit to Vietnam by the European Commission (EC) President, particularly a cooperation agreement to be signed between Vietnam and the EC in the future.
The government leader called for more Belgium support for efforts to lift the Vietnam-Belgium and EC co-operations to a new level.
Vietnam now has 20 Belgian-invested projects, worth around US$70 million. The figure has not yet matched the two countries’ potentials.
For his part, Ambassador Cooreman applauded the Vietnam’s achievements in socio-economic development and global integration, its accession to the World Trade Organisation and its 2008-09 permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
The Belgian diplomat pledged to spare no effort in fulfilling his mission and helping to promote the traditional relations between the two countries in all domains.
