New private tissue banks get nod

The Ministry of Health approved the establishment of tissue banks, including private tissue banks, under its newly issued Decision 03/2008.

Under the decision, relevant agencies and organisations and private companies can set up tissue banks if they meet the ministry’s requirements on facilities and human resources.

Tissue banks will operate as simple or multiple banks.

Six kinds of tissue banks will exist. They will be operated within state-owned hospitals; the ministry’s medical and pharmacy universities and other ministry-level organisations; municipal and provincial health departments; municipal and provincial health departments’ hospitals; private hospital and private medical and pharmacy universities; and private tissue banks.
