National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan concludes the 27th meeting of the NA Standing Committee.

Ngan said that in the next meeting of the NA Standing Committee, scheduled for October 15-17, relevant agencies should send documents to the committee on time to ensure the quality and progress of discussion at the meeting.

Earlier, the NA Standing Committee approved a resolution on an environmental tax list, which aims to raise public awareness of the responsibilities in environmental protection, while encouraging organizations and individuals to use environmentally-friendly products.

The committee agreed with the Government’s proposal on adjusting the environmental tax rate on some products, including fuel. Specifically, the rate for petrol was suggested to increase from VND 3,000 per liter to the ceiling level of VND 4,000 per liter, while that of diesel oil to be raised from VND 1,500 per liter to VND 2,000 per liter, and fuel oil from VND 900 per liter to the ceiling rate of VND 2,000 per liter. The tax rate on kerosene was proposed to be pushed up from VND 300 per liter to VND 1,000 per liter.

The resolution also adjusts the tax rate for products that take a more lasting toll on the environment, such as fossil coal, herbicides, anti-termite chemicals, plastic bags, and restricted antiseptics.

The same day, members of the committee also debated the revised Law on Tax Management.
