Addressing the ceremony, Doan Van Thai, Vice President and General Secretary of the Central Committee of Vietnam Red Cross Society, affirmed that the organizing panel would continue assisting fisheries surveillance and coast guard forces, as well as providing support for offshore fishermen in the coming time.

Jointly launched by the Ministry of Information and Communication, the Vietnam Red Cross Society and many other organizations on May 19th, the program aimed to raise money to buy specialized equipment for coast guard and fisheries surveillance forces, as well as give support to fishermen fishing at sea. It was also to enhance the awareness of people nationwide of the national sovereignty over sea and islands, and call upon people in the mainland to support islanders and those on missions at sea.
