PANO - Giay cake (glutinous rice dumping cake) is a traditional special Tet food of Mong ethnic minority in the Northwest region. This is also an integral thing in their cultural and spiritual life.

At first, the women steams sticky rice, the main ingredient of the cake, which is then poured into a wooden gutter and grinded into a pulp by the men. The pulp is then rolled into small balls and covered with banana leaves. When finished, the cakes were put on the altar as an offering to Mong people's ancestors.

On these days, throughout the far-off places of the Northern border, ethnic Mong people are busy at making Giay cake as welcoming Lunar New Year.
