The Prime Minister has approved a cultural development strategy until 2020 which aims to develop human resources in terms of political awareness, brainpower, morality, health and creativity, bring into full play the cultural values of all beliefs and religions and preserve the nation’s cultural heritage.

Under the strategy, Vietnam should enhance the socialization of cultural activities by mobilizing all resources for cultural development with a focus on stage performance, cinematography, fine arts, photography, exhibitions, publishing, museology, intangible culture, cultural science and copy rights.

The strategy is divided into two phases: From now until 2015, Vietnam will refine its cultural development policy, issue a number of related laws, implement its national cultural programme, build mechanisms and policies on cultural activities in remote, mountainous and islands areas and develop the cinematography, fine arts and exhibition sectors. In addition, the country will build more recreational areas for children, develop schools for cultural and fine arts training, set up more cultural centres abroad and operate the national fair and exhibition center, the National Museum of History, the Vietnam Dance and Song Theatre and the Cultural and Tourism Village of the Vietnamese Ethnic Minorities.

Through 2020, Vietnam will continue to supplement and improve its cultural development policy and increase the quality of cultural and fine art training on a par with regional standards. Large projects such as the Vietnam Nature Museum, the Museum of Science and Technology and the Co Loa Film Studio will be carried out in this period.
