PANO - A contest on 70 years of the National Day for Wounded Soldiers and Martyrs was launched on July 25th by the People’s Army Newspaper (PAN), the Department of Policy and VNPT.
It is a program in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the day next year.
Addressing the launch ceremony, PAN’s Editor-in-Chief Major General Pham Van Huan expressed deep gratitude to heroes, martyrs, wounded and sick soldiers and national contributors for their great sacrifice, bloodshed youthfulness devoted to the national salvation cause.
Over the past 69 years, under the sound leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the State, people and army have paid much attention to, specially cared for and done practical activities to thank those rendering good services for the national independence and freedom.

Therefore, the contest is of great significance and full of humanity to acknowledge efforts of those who have been active in executing policy work and supporting national contributors.
“Your participating in the contest, studying the glorious historical days and showing deep sentiment in your articles can be seen as an incense stick offered to martyrs”, said Major General Pham Van Huan.
Thanking PAN and the Department of Policy for organizing such a meaningful contest, VNPT’s Deputy General Director To Manh Cuong said that in the two resistance wars against foreign invaders, thousands of postal and communications workers resiliently and bravely combated and creatively built signal lines across the country to ensure smooth communications for the Party, the Government, organizations and local people. Nearly one thousand of them laid their lives for national independence and freedom.
The VNPT’s Deputy General Director underscored that the group’s workers will accompany the contest.
Affirming that the contest helps heighten the spirit of national proud among today’s young generation and bring into full play the beautiful Vietnamese tradition “While drinking water, remember its source”, trainee Nguyen Kim Manh from the Political Officer Training School and student Pham Nguyet Nga from the Academy of Journalism and Communications laid stress on the contest’s significance, saying that it brings about strength to young generations to further study to be deserved to the older generation’s sacrifices.
All Vietnamese living, studying and working at home and abroad are eligible to join the contest.
Each participant has to answer three multiple choice questions at http://70namtbls.qdnd.vn or http://chinhsachquandoi.gov.vn or http://vnpt.vn and write an article of under 500 words on requested topics and send it to PAN’s head office at 7 Phan Dinh Phung Street, Hanoi. An optional question on information related to martyrs’ and martyrs’ tombs is also included.
The contest will run until July 1st, 2017.
The organizing panel will present one first, two second and two third prizes every two weeks. There is also an award for the best article every quarter.
Notably, 25 and 50 articles winning first and second prizes will compete for the year’s awards including one first, two second, three third and ten consolation prizes. Besides, the organizing panel will award the group with the largest number of participants and the individual participant with the most moving article.
