PANO – The Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society and the Coordination Office of the National Target Program on New-style Rural Areas on May 31st signed a coordination plan for the 2016-2020 period of the program.

The coordination plan aims at a number of goals, including to improve the awareness of the national target program  for people in rural areas and the management officials; spread knowledge among communities, and to raise accountability of Red Cross workers, role of peasants in the industrialization and modernization process as well as rural development.

Apart from that, the plan also helps communities successfully fulfill their rural development objectives set by the National Target Program on New-style Rural Areas. Under the program, 50% communes nationwide will meet all the new-style rural area criteria by 2020.

Accordingly, the plan will focus on the dissemination and replication of success stories and models in the construction of new-style rural areas. The plan will also build a number of pilot projects to provide fresh and clean water for people in rural areas, ensure hygiene and improve the capabilities to resume fresh water resources for people during natural disasters, and more.

Especially, the two sides will further cooperate to implement a number of social programs such as “Tet (New Year festival) for the poor and Agent Orange/Dioxin victims” campaign and “Cow Bank for the poor” project…
