Localities and enterprises nationwide have organised a programmes of events to mark the 60th anniversary of War Invalids and Fallen Soldiers Day.
Among these activities, formal visits and gifts have been given to wounded soldiers and families of martyrs and those who rendered services to the nation.
The Viet Nam National Petroleum Corporation (Petrolimex) on July 16 visited and presented gifts worth 10 million VND (625 USD) to war invalids with serious mental illnesses at the Nho Quan Sanatorium, in northern Ninh Binh province.
Police in the northern Yen Bai province built two houses worth 50 million VND for families of war invalids and martyrs in Tran Yen district. Six other houses are under construction with support from the force.
Also in the north, Thai Nguyen is completing the final touches to a 5 billion VND (312,500 USD) project in a historical site in Dai Tu district in honour of those who had rendered service to the nation. The province will coordinate with the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs and the HCM Communist Youth Union Central Committee to organise a live programme themed "Vietnamese youth - itinerary to pay tribute to contributors to the nation" on July 27.
This month, Thai Nguyen province has spent over 2.1 billion VND presenting gifts to those who receive monthly allowances. So far this year, the province has contributed 2 billion VND to the Viet Nam Fatherland Front-initiated fund and built 160 gratitude houses for families of wounded and fallen soldiers.
In Quy Nhon City of the central Binh Dinh province, hundreds of children have painted pictures on Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and soldiers which are on display under the title "Uong nuoc nho nguon" (when drinking water, remember its source).
For the older generation, an exhibition entitled "Songs of Heroes" will showcase artifacts and data from the 60 years that the Government has implemented preferential policies for wounded and fallen soldiers as well as families of those who made great contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party, State and people of Viet Nam.
The event will be held by the Ministry of Culture and Information in Ha Noi from July 24-28.
During the exhibition, many artistic programmes will also be held.
