PANO – The National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC), in collaboration with the Central Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, held a press conference on November 3rd in Hanoi to introduce activities in response to “the World Day of Remembrance for Victims of Road Traffic Accidents”.
The program, themed “Remembrances to those who passed away - For the ones who stay”, has been underway since October 15th and will continue until November 15th. The program’s activities aim to warn people of the causes and serious consequences of traffic accidents, and to raise public awareness of traffic safety and traffic law observation.
The NTSC will pay visits to victims’ families and a requiem for victims is scheduled to take place on November 11th at Truc Lam Thien Truong Zen Monastery in Nam Dinh province. A ceremony to commemorate victims of road traffic accidents will be organized at 8.00 pm on November 15th in Hanoi.
According to Vice Chairman of the NTSC Khuat Viet Hung, road traffic accidents have caused serious losses to victims’ families, community as well as society in general. On average, 22 people die every day, despite the fact that the number of traffic accidents in Vietnam has reduced recently. He believes that the event is an opportunity to remind people of traffic safety so as to create an image of a peaceful, friendly and hospitable Vietnam.
