Previously, Vietnam successfully held the 26th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-26), the 6th Greater Mekong Sub-region Summit (GMS-6), and the 10th Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Summit on Development of Triangle Area (CLV-10).

The WEF ASEAN 2018 is held in the context that the building of the ASEAN Community has been boosted, and the global and regional situations are undergoing rapid and complex developments while Industry 4.0 is having increasing impacts on various aspects of life. Therefore, the theme of the forum, “ASEAN 4.0: Entrepreneurship in the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” is considered practical and touches upon common concerns of ASEAN and other countries in the region. It also connects with the theme “ASEAN: resilient and innovative” of the ASEAN Year 2018. The forum is attended by senior leaders of ASEAN and countries in the region, leaders of major organizations such as WB, ADB, AIIB, and other groups such as prestigious news and communications agencies in the region and world.

With 60 sessions, the WEF ASEAN 2018 focuses on issues that capture the attention of ASEAN government leaders, enterprises and people. These include the definition of a new vision on regional integration for ASEAN; new economic and management models in the digital age; driving forces and business models for ASEAN countries in Industry 4.0; enterprises and new approaches to global and regional administration; smart infrastructure development, skill training, jobs, startups, and innovation in the context of Industry 4.0.

Since Vietnam started to cooperate with WEF in 1989, WEF is an important forum that has contributed significantly to the socio-economic development and international integration of Vietnam. So far, Vietnam has been the first and only country in Southeast Asia that WEF has signed and implemented its PPP (Public-Private Partnership) cooperation agreement with. Vietnam has always highly valued cooperation with WEF and this is the third time that Vietnam has held a WEF meeting, after the WEF on East Asia 2010 and the WEF-Mekong 2016.

The organization of the WEF ASEAN 2018 of Vietnam has reaffirmed Vietnam’s Party and State policy on proactive and active international integration, contributing to regional development and integration. The success of the event will make further contribution to deepening Vietnam-WEF cooperation in the coming time. The event is also a chance for Vietnam to promote its image to leaders and businesses of other countries in the region and the world, and helps boost their cooperation with Vietnam.

It is strongly believed that the thorough preparation of Vietnam for the WEF ASEAN 2018 together with the support from partners and the active participation of news and communications agencies will help Vietnam successfully organize the event.
