In spring, Bac Ha district turns into a "white plateau" when white plum flowers begin to bloom on the hillsides and in the villages of the H'mong people. Bac Ha has two famous types of plums: Tam Hoa and Ta Van plum. Tam Hoa plums often blossom from January to the end of February. This is the time when Ta Van plums are in full bloom.

Ta Van Chu village is about 20km Northwest of Bac Ha district center and is about 115km from Sa Pa town. The village is located near the communes of Bac Ha and Si Ma Cai districts. Every year, Nguyen Van Gioi, aged 36, working in the tourism sector in Lao Cai, visits Ta Van Chu village in the plum blossom season to take photos. The road from the district center to the village is quite convenient, suitable for both motorbikes and high-clearance cars. Moreover, the air is fresh and cool. Therefore, Ta Van Chu village has become an ideal destination for many tourists and photographers to take photos.

Visiting the village at the end of February, Gioi saw plum blossoms blooming brightly, covering the villagers' gardens in white.

Plum flowers are smaller than peach flowers, growing in clusters on branches. This flower has 5 thin white petals and yellow stamens. This year, the white plum blossom season in Ta Van Chu lasts until mid-March.

Some plum gardens sell entrance tickets at 20,000 VND per person, and some are free. Visitors can rent national costumes to take photos for 50,000 VND, Gioi said.

Coming to Ta Van Chu, visitors can easily see villagers wearing colorful traditional brocade costumes. Local people mainly use the H'mong language. They also can speak a little of the national language and are friendly with tourists. Tourists should go with a local tourist guide to learn more about the life and culture of the H'mong people.

Tourists should visit Ta Van Chu on sunny days to get beautiful photos. However, currently, the village does not have many restaurants or hotels. Tourists can bring snacks and drinks to visit the village during the day and rest in Bac Ha townlet. This year, the Bac Ha White Plateau Festival is held from March 8 to 10. In addition to enjoying white plum blossoms, tourists can participate in various activities, including the traditional horse racing, the fire jumping ceremony of the Dao ethnic people, and the mountain climbing and Bac Ha Temple festival.
