PANO – Quang Binh province organized a traditional boat race festival on the Kien Giang river in Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province on September 2.

Imbued with the culture of the wet rice civilization and the sportsmanship spirit of the country, the festival has become a specific cultural and sports activity on the National Day in Quang Binh - hometown of General Vo Nguyen Giap.

Previously, the festival was held in spring and in July (lunar calendar) to pray for favorable weather and abundant crops. Since 1946, Le Thuy district has organized the festival on September 2 to celebrate the National Day. In 2019, the festival was recognized as national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

This year’s boat race festival attracted the participation of nearly 1,300 athletes, divided into 10 female and 24 male teams.

The People’s Army Newspaper would like to introduce some photos of the festival.
