Naval troops assist fishermen to fish at sea
PANO – The Naval Region 2 Command cooperated with Tra Vinh and Bac Lieu provinces held a program to support fishermen to keep fishing at sea on June 14 and 15.
The program, which has been regularly held by the Naval Region 2 Command from 2019, aims to encourage fishermen in Southern provinces and cities to continue fishing at sea and mobilize them to contribute to firmly protecting national sovereignty over sea and islands.
Meeting with fishermen in Tra Vinh and Bac Lieu provinces, the mission updated them on maritime boundary delimitation agreements between Vietnam and neighboring countries and legal documents on safe, sustainable and lawful fishing in combination with environment protection. Visiting naval troops also provided local fishermen with locations of naval units’ locks and communication channels to contact when needed.
The mission also presented 1,000 national flags, 300 lifejackets, and 30 gifts and distributed 2,000 sets of documents on information related to legal and responsible fishing to needy fishermen.
The medical team of the Naval Region 2 Command provided free healthcare and medicine to around 300 fishermen in Dinh An townlet (Tra Cu district, Tra Vinh district) and Ganh Hao townlet (Dong Hai district, Bac Lieu province).
