Vietnamese community in Cambodia donate to support storm-hit people
PANO - In recent days, Northern provinces and cities of Vietnam have suffered significant human and material losses due to the impact of the third storm (Typhoon Yagi).
With the spirit that the Government and all Vietnamese citizens both at home and abroad join hand to support those affected by the disaster, the Embassy of Vietnam in Cambodia organized a ceremony on September 13 to receive donations from Vietnamese organizations and individuals in Cambodia to help the Vietnamese at home overcome the severe consequences of the third storm.
At the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang welcomed and thanked the officials and staff of the embassy and Vietnamese representative agencies in Cambodia, businesses, benefactors, students, and the Vietnamese community in the country. He emphasized that the donation is a testament to the tradition of supporting each other in difficult time of the Vietnamese people.
At the event, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia received nearly USD 40,000 to support the people in the storm-affected localities. Of that amount, businesses under the Vietnam-Cambodia Business Association (VCBA) donated nearly USD 20,000, while the Cambodian people of the Vietnamese origin donated over USD 14,000 through the Khmer-Vietnam Association. The donated money will be soon handed over to storm-hit people.
According to Chau Van Chi, President of Khmer-Vietnam Association in Cambodia, in response to the appeal of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and the Vietnam Embassy in Cambodia, the association called on the Vietnamese people living in 25 provinces and cities in Cambodia to donate to support the Vietnamese to overcome difficulties. He said that the call received the active response from the Vietnamese community in Cambodia, and this demonstrates their deep care and concern for the Vietnamese at home.
