Overseas Vietnamese in Kazan, the capital of Tartastan, Russia, recently organised a meeting and art performance to welcome the traditional Lunar New Year.
The event, which was also attended by representatives of the Vietnamese People Association (VPA), the Vietnam Business Association (VBA) in Russia, and Kazan’s local authorities, was sponsored by Vietnamese companies in Russia including Vitacom Plus group, Vitaras companies and Sarepta Group.
In addition to a party with traditional Vietnamese foods like banh chung (square cake), nem (spring rolls) and gio cha (pork pie), there was an art performance with the participation of famous singers from the homeland, such as People’s Artist Trung Duc, Ha Linh, Hien Xuan, and Hai Yen.
The event was organised through the efforts of the VPA in Kazan and the support of the VPA in Russia and various businesses, said Vitacom Plus’s chairman Duong Xuan Dung, adding that he hopes to help overseas Vietnamese to enjoy a happy Tet holiday.
Nguyen Thi Thao, a woman from Quang Binh province who is working in Kazan, said she was very happy to enjoy the show given by artists from home and expressed her thanks to the organisers for bringing her closer to Vietnam.
Although they live far from their motherland, they are very happy to attend this event during which they can speak their mother tongue and enjoy traditional dishes and music, said Nikolai Mikhailovic, a Kazan senior official.
The four-hour-long event ended with a colourful display of fireworks.
