Vietnamese embassies in many countries hosted New Year get-togethers to welcome the Year of the Snake in the lunar calendar while promoting solidarity among the overseas Vietnamese community.
The Vietnamese Embassy in the UK held a New Year celebration on February 3.
Addressing the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Vu Quang Minh affirmed that the strategic partnership between the two countries has developed spectacularly in many fields. He highlighted the visit of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the UK in the first month of 2013 which resulted in several new cooperation frameworks.
On the occasion, the President of the Vietnam-UK Friendship Association Len Aldis said 2013 is a special year which marks the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese leader Nguyen Ai Quoc (Ho Chi Minh)’s arrival in London and the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the UK and Vietnam.
The Tet celebration hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy in Mexico on February saw the attendance of the office chief of Mexico’s Labour Party (PT), Senator Jose Alberto Banavides and Cuban Ambassador to Mexico Dagoberto Rodriguez Barrera.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Switzerland, Bulgaria and Malaysia also organised similar events for the overseas Vietnamese community.
