By late 1974, the situation in the Southern theater changed significantly, with revolutionary forces securing continuous victories while the enemy forces weakened. The Politburo recognized this strategic opportunity and decided to liberate the South within two years, from 1975 to 1976, selecting the Central Highlands as the main attack direction and Buon Ma Thuot as the campaign's primary target. At 02:03 a.m. on March 10, 1975, the Vietnamese troops and people launched a rapid offensive against key enemy positions in Buon Ma Thuot. By March 11, 1975, the town had been fully under control by the Vietnamese force. On March 24, 1975, Dak Lak province was completely liberated.

The Central Highlands Campaign, with the Buon Ma Thuot Victory as a highlight, dealt a decisive blow to the enemy force, leading to their eventual collapse. This contributed to the Spring 1975 General Offensive and Uprising, which led to the South liberation and national reunification.
Fifty years after the liberation, Buon Ma Thuot city in particular and Dak Lak province in general have experienced remarkable transformations, achieving significant progress in all aspects.
