According to Senior Colonel Chau Chac, Deputy Political Commissar of An Giang Province’s Military Command, the provincial Military Command has thoroughly studied and strictly implemented the Standing Committee of the Central Military Commission’s directive on carrying out ethnic affairs in the new period; cooperated with localities, departments, sectors, organizations, and especially the Offices for Ethnic Affairs of Tan Chau Town and An Phu District to foster information dissemination to raise ethnic minority people and prestigious people’s vigilance against hostile forces.

Those activities have helped the Khmer people have the full awareness of and encouraged them to abide by the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws, actively develop household economy to improve their living standards, and participate in local movements and campaigns to remove backward customs.

Since 2021, An Giang province’s armed forces have visited and presented 280 gift packages, worth VND 240 million in total, to churches and mosques on the occasion of Ramadan and Roya Haji festivals; mobilized 152 dropouts to return to school; given school supplies and scholarships, worth VND 400 million in total, to needy students with good academic results; provided health examinations and medicines and more than 2,000 gift packages, worth total VND 690 million, for poor households and families in difficult circumstances; mobilized resources to repair and build 25 houses.

According to President of the Khmer Women's Club in An Giang province Sity Hara, although the Khmer people are a small community, they always receive special attention from authorities at all levels, especially the provincial armed forces. Thanks to that support, the Khmer people together with the local government have stayed united and overcome difficulties to develop socio-economy.

Senior Colonel Chau Chac added that in the coming time the provincial Military Command would continue to study the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws on ethnic affairs, thus making appropriate recommendations to higher levels. The province’s armed forces will actively support local Party Committee and authorities to provide material and spiritual support for the Khmer people.

Troops will also focus on enhancing ethnic minority people’s competence and skills, thus contributing to economic, cultural, and social development; well carry out training; conduct field trips and mass mobilization activities to strengthen military-civilian solidarity.
