Coast Guard Region 4 reviews IUU fishing fighting program
PANO – The Coast Guard Region 4 Command held a conference on November 7 to review its intensive fighting program against “illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing” with a focus on preventing Vietnamese fishing vessels' infringement of foreign waters.
Reportedly, Coast Guard Region 4’s Party Committee and leadership directed affiliated units to implement the program effectively and flexibly, contributing to fulfilling the assigned tasks.
Notably, the region launched 124 patrol and inspection sessions, penalized 53 violation cases and 64 Vietnamese fishing vessels with fines of more than VND 1 billion, and confiscated 116,789 liters of diesel oil. The sale of confiscated assets was nearly VND 2 billion. During task performance, the region’s forces always ensure compliance with the law and absolute safety in all aspects.
The unit has actively coordinated with local agencies and sectors to disseminate information to more than 620 boat owners and fishermen while mobilizing high-risk vehicle owners to sign the pledge of non-violation of IUU fishing in 3 fishing ports of Kien Giang and Ca Mau provinces.
In addition, the region collaborated with the VTC Telecommunications Joint Stock Company to send warning messages and give information to more than 6,000 subscribers who are owners of fishing vessels and captains with a high probability of IUU fishing violation, contribute to raising their awareness of and responsibility in complying with regulations.
Addressing the conference, Senior Colonel Tran Van Luong, Commander of Coast Guard Region 4, stressed that the program was completed successfully in terms of its contents and set requirements thanks to the pro-activeness and determination of all participating forces.
