PANO - Lieutenant General Do Can, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) on August 31 hosted a reception in Hanoi for a delegation of national contributors of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, who are on a visit to the capital city and paid homage to late President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum.

In the resistance wars against foreign invaders, Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial armed forces were faithful to the revolution, dauntless, resilient and unyielding, and brave in fighting enemies for national liberation and reunification, deserving the Southeastern region’s tradition of the “painful but brave region”.

Deputy head of the provincial Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Nguyen Van Phuong, reported that the province has nearly 27,000 national contributors including, 8,056 martyrs and 1,026 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers (47 of them still alive). Noticeably, 17,063 provincial national contributors receive monthly allowance now.

The provincial official added that since 1995, as many as 1,535 gratitude houses, totally valued at nearly VND 32 billion, have been built in the whole province for national contributors. Moreover, the province has annually funded some VND 3 billion in building gratitude houses and implementing social policies.

Addressing the meeting, General Can emphasized that officers and soldiers in the whole army have always borne in their minds the provincial people’s and troops’ great contributions. Under the sound leadership of the Party, officers and troops have been united, and brought into full play the Party’s, nation’s and heroic army’s glorious revolutionary tradition, been ready to sacrifice to firmly protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity, active in local socio-economic development and proactively assisted locals in eliminating hunger and reducing poverty as well as overcoming consequences of natural disasters.
