Defense leader inspects Phu Cat Airport construction
PANO - On November 17, a delegation of the Ministry of National Defense, headed by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army and Deputy Defense Minister, had a working session with the leadership of the Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee regarding the expansion of Phu Cat Airport.
Attending the meeting were Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Ho Quoc Dung and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Pham Anh Tuan.

During the event, relevant agencies emphasized the crucial role of Phu Cat Airport in promoting socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security for the South-Central Coast region in general and Binh Dinh Province in particular. However, with its current capacity, Phu Cat Airport frequently experiences overload, especially during peak tourism seasons and holidays.

The draft plan for Phu Cat Airport from 2021 to 2030 aims to accommodate its transportation capacity up to 5 million passengers and about 12,000 tons of cargo per year, transforming it into a modern dual-use airport. Looking ahead to 2050, further expansion is envisioned, enabling the airport to handle approximately 7 million passengers and 27,000 tons of cargo annually.

Addressing the working session, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong urged the Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee to continue coordinating with the Ministry of Transport and relevant defense agencies to review and refine the airport's draft plan. He also highlighted some existing shortcomings, calling for prompt solutions and consensus among local authorities and units regarding the project.
