The helicopter lands at the helipad of Military Hospital 175, handing over the patient to the hospital for timely emergency treatment.

Earlier, on the evening of September 5, following orders from higher levels, the VNH South dispatched helicopter EC-225, carrying an experienced crew from the unit and an emergency team from Military Hospital 175, from Vung Tau Airport. They was tasked with urgently evacuating a critically ill fisherman from Song Tu Tay Island in Truong Sa Special Zone, Khanh Hoa province.

The patient, fisherman Nguyen Duc Quang, born in 1980 and a native of Quang Ngai province’s Ly Son, was diagnosed with type II decompression sickness due to deep diving. At the 21st hour, his condition had become severe, with multi-organ dysfunction involving circulatory, respiratory, renal, and neurological systems and complications of cardiac arrest and difficult-to-recover respiratory failure.

Doctors also warned of risks including aspiration, embolism, progressive paralysis, and multiple organ failure, beyond the treatment capacity of Song Tu Tay Island Infirmary. Therefore, urgent airlift to the mainland for intensive care was deemed necessary.

Departing from Vung Tau Airport at 9p.m. on September 5, the helicopter refueled at Truong Sa Island before landing at Song Tu Tay Island at 2:50a.m. on September 6. The medical team quickly reached the patient and transferred him onto the helicopter.

After hours of flying over the sea in the darkness of night, at 10:38a.m. on September 6, the helicopter landed safely at the helipad of Military Hospital 175. The patient was handed over to doctors for continued treatment, in time to save his life.

Throughout the mission, despite night flights, complex weather conditions, long flight hours, and multiple takeoffs and landings, the unit swiftly carried out preparations in strict accordance with procedures. Close coordination was maintained with the Air Defense – Air Force Service, the Navy, and other relevant forces to respond effectively to all contingencies. The crew worked in seamless coordination, ensuring absolute safety and excellently fulfilling the assigned mission.
