The first tank crew of Vietnam before the semifinal

According to Senior Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Thang, Head of Vietnamese Tank Team, the first semifinal match witnessed fierce competition between Vietnamese troops and their peers from Myanmar. The Vietnamese team excellently performed their tank driving and shooting skills and showed a high-level of coordination between their crewmembers.

The performance of the Vietnamese tank team impressed their peers from other participating countries and spectators. Lieutenant Colonel Khamchanh Senmany, Deputy Head of Lao Tank Team, said, “I am excited as three teams from Southeast Asia entered the semifinal of the Tank Biathlon event. I highly appreciate the driving and shooting skills of Vietnamese troops.”

“I am happy because in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam sent a larger number of troops to compete in the Army Games 2020. I admire the competitive spirit of the Vietnamese tank team,” said Olex Snagitskyi, a Russian spectator, after watching the performance of the Vietnamese team. 

In the semifinals, each crew was required to run T-72B3 tanks four rounds, in which they had to cross different obstacles, and annihilate eight targets, including three targets  No. 12 (adversary tank) at distances of 1,600, 1,700, and 1,800m, target No.25 (helicopter) and target No.11 (antitank vehicle) at respective distances of 800m and 1,000 m, and three targets (hand-held anti-tank grenade launcher) at distances of 600, 700, and 800m. After the first crew completed their competition, the second and then the third entered the competition.

On the same day, other teams of the Vietnam People’s Army tried their best to achieve high results in their competition events of the Army Games 2020 to mark the National Day.

Particularly, in the first lap of the third stage of the “Sniper Frontier” event, the Vietnamese Sniper Team impressed spectators as they climbed to second place, behind Belarus, after recording 30/40 points in 112.32 seconds. In the second and third laps, the Vietnamese team ranked fourth and third. 

Meanwhile, on the second day of competition, the Vietnamese Search and Rescue Team ranked second among ten participating teams competing in the “Emergency Area” event of the Army Games 2020.

With great speed and skills, Vietnamese troops successfully crossed different obstacles, including climbing rope, overcoming a section in collapsing design, and evacuating a victim out of the debris. In the final stage, two armed competitors ran 150m before annihilating all six targets. Their performance was highly appreciated by the jury.
