At the games, the engineering contingent will participate in the “Safe Route” competition.
According to Colonel Pham Tuan Luc, Deputy Commanding Officer and Chief of the Staff of Brigade 229 and the contingent head, over the past months, the engineers have intensified their training at Brigade 229 under the Engineering Corps despite scorching sun and amid the COVID-19 pandemic. They have effectively operated assigned heavy and technical equipment with absolute safety.
Luc added that it took the contingent members only 10 minutes and 27 seconds to land from a simulated helicopter, cross a hanging bridge, a rope wall, and a two-storey house, conduct mine clearance, and overcome other obstacles using BTR armored personnel carriers. The total time is 40 seconds better than other Vietnamese contingents gained at the previous games.

Meanwhile, TMM-3M2 engineering crew completed their tasks in just 19 minutes and 37 seconds, close to the result of the bronze winner of the Army Games 2020 with 19 minutes and 22 seconds. Additionally, the BAT track-layer and IMR combat engineer vehicle crews quickly backfilled craters, overcame antitank ditches, and conquered other barriers, making an opening for the whole crews to reach the finish safely.
During the training session, all contingent members observed COVID-19 prevention and control measures, received two shots of COVID-19 vaccine, and had their health checked regularly. They were also updated with the competition’s regulations and weather conditions of the host country Russia. Moreover, they took part in sideline activities to improve their physical fitness and spiritual life.

Non-commissioned Second Lieutenant Trieu Duy Long said that all members put the task first, show high determination, uphold solidarity, exert all-out efforts, overcome difficulties and strive to fulfill all assignments.
In the Army Games 2019 and 2020, the Vietnamese engineering contingents won a bronze medal and achieved the “Best engineering assault section” title.
As planned, the Engineering Corps will organize a send-off ceremony for the contingent and launched an emulation movement on July 26 before the contingent leaves for Russia.
