Sr. Lt. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien presents a souvenir to Deputy Secretary-General for Defense of Malaysia Mohd Yani Bin Daud.

At the meeting with the Deputy Secretary-General of the Malaysian Ministry of Defense, General Chien expressed confidence that Malaysia would successfully fulfill its role as ASEAN Chair in 2025. He also conveyed his delight at the positive development of Vietnam-Malaysia relations in recent times, especially the upgrade of the bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the state visit to Malaysia by Party General Secretary To Lam in November 2024, which opened a new chapter in bilateral ties.

The Vietnamese defense leader believed that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit would further deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

Deputy Defense Minister Hoang Xuan Chien emphasized that bilateral defense cooperation had achieved many positive outcomes in areas such as delegation exchanges at all levels, effective maintenance of dialogue mechanisms, human resource training, and maritime search and rescue. General Chien suggested that the two sides continue to promote bilateral defense ties in a more comprehensive and substantive manner. He hoped that the Malaysian Ministry of Defense would support efforts to accelerate the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two governments on cooperation in law enforcement and maritime search and rescue operations; sign an agreement on joint maritime patrols and a communication channel between the two navies; exchange information, enforce laws, assist fishing vessels and fishermen in distress, treat fishermen humanely; and support each other at multilateral forums and mechanisms. He also proposed that the Malaysian Ministry of Defense consider cooperation and support for Vietnam in overcoming war consequences.

Mohd Yani bin Daud affirmed that Malaysia was making every effort to maintain and promote unity and effective cooperation within ASEAN and with its partners. He expressed a desire for closer and more extensive cooperation with Vietnam to further advance bilateral defense relations, contributing significantly to Malaysia's goals during its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025.

While meeting with General Datuk Muhammad Hafizuddeain bin Jantan, General Chien congratulated Malaysia on the successful organization of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA 2025), which featured many impressive events. He appreciated the role of the Malaysian Armed Forces in co-organizing the event.

The Vietnamese defense leader expressed hope that, in the coming time, both sides would continue to promote bilateral defense cooperation in a more comprehensive and substantive manner. He emphasized the importance of delegation exchanges, dialogue mechanisms, cooperation among military services, youth officer exchanges, expansion into potential fields such as the defense industry, and mutual support at multilateral forums.
