Vietnam, Malaysia enhance defense ties
PANO - Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, member of the Party Central Committee, permanent member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), on March 22 met with Malaysian Deputy Minister of Defense Sri Mohd Johari bin Baharom.
The meeting was within the framework of Gen. Giang’s Malaysia visit to Langkawi to participate in the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2017 (LIMA 2017).

The Malaysian Deputy Minister of Defense warmly welcomed and thanked Gen. Giang for his leading the high-level mission of the VPA to attend LIMA 2017. He stressed the huge potential of the two countries’ cooperation in defense industry, especially in the context that both Vietnam and Malaysia have been modernizing their armed forces. He hoped to see further cooperation between the two countries in this field.
For his part, Gen. Giang thanked the host for the invitation to LIMA 2017 and the warm reception. Giang spoke highly of the Malaysian Ministry of Defense’s organization of such prestigious regional event.
The same day, Gen. Giang met with Gen. Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor, Chief of the Malaysian Defense Forces.
The two sides reviewed the two countries’ bilateral defense cooperation over the past time and exchanged measures to foster the ties.
