On behalf of the Vietnamese defense leadership, General Chien warmly welcomed the Lao delegation to Vietnam, stressing that the visit was significantly meaningful because it was made at a time when the two countries are collaborating to organizing activities in celebration of the “Vietnam - Laos, Laos - Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022.” It contributed to actualizing the common perception between the two defense ministries and deepening the great relationship and special solidarity of Vietnam and Laos.

The Vietnamese deputy defense minister praised the efforts of the border guard forces of the two countries in implementing cooperative contents comprehensively and effectively. The cooperation activities have contributed to assisting people in developing their economy and improving their lives, as well as maintaining political security and social order in the border area, he added. Several outstanding activities were the border friendship exchange, the healthcare programs, and the collaboration in the COVID-19 prevention and control, he stressed.

General Chien suggested the two sides continue effectively deploying the 2019-2024 cooperation protocol and the annual cooperation plan between the two defense ministries and relevant documents, enhancing information sharing on border management and protection, and conducting joint exercise to prevent cross-border crimes and illegal immigration.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien affirmed that the leaders of Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense always support and create favorable conditions for the two border guard forces to strengthen cooperation, contributing to further deepening the bilateral defense ties between the two countries.

In turn, Major General Siphan Phutthavong underlined that the great relationship and special solidarity are significant to the two peoples. They have been nurtured and reinforced by generations of senior leaders of the two countries in any circumstances. He affirmed that the two sides will strictly implement the signed documents on the shared borderline, enhance collaboration on border management, and improve the quality of border guard personnel training, and so on.

At the talk, the two sides exchanged and agreed on the key cooperation contents in the coming time, emphasizing on strictly and effectively implementing the signed documents and agreements on border areas between Vietnam and Laos; strengthening coordination in border management and protection, and organizing bilateral patrols as well as fighting against crimes.

At the end of the talks, the two sides signed the meeting’s minutes. Within the framework of the working visit to Vietnam, the delegation of the Lao Border Guard Department, visited the Border Guard Vocational School No.24.
