The group of U.S. warships includes the aircraft carrier USS CARL VINSON, the guided missile cruiser USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN and the destroyer USS WAYNE E. MEYER.

During the visit to Da Nang, the U.S. naval delegation is expected to participate in such activities as the welcome ceremony, press conference, courtesy calls on the local leadership and local military commands, naval technical exchanges and sports games with local military units, and some other social activities.

The spokesperson affirmed that this visit to Da Nang of the U.S. aircraft carrier and two other vessels aims to realize the agreement between top U.S. and Vietnamese leaders, articulated in the Vietnam-US Joint Statement reached by the two sides during U.S. President D. Trump’s visit to Vietnam in November 2017.

The visit will also contribute to promoting the bilateral relations in line with the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership as well as to maintaining peace, stability, security, cooperation and development in the region, according to the spokesperson.

At the press conference the spokesperson also answered queries from reporters about the situation of nearly 70,000 Vietnamese nationals residing in Cambodia without legal documents.

She said that the Cambodian Government recently pledged to provide two-year resident permits to the Vietnamese nationals.

She also affirmed that Vietnam always wants the Cambodian side provides favorable conditions and apply appropriate and humane approaches to ensure legitimate interests and benefits of all Vietnamese Cambodians in accordance with the Cambodian laws as well as international law.

At this point, Vietnam’s representative agencies in Cambodia are actively working with relevant Cambodian agencies to deal with the issues in support of gradually completing legal documents for all Vietnamese Cambodians and guaranteeing legitimate interests and legal permanent residence of all Vietnamese Cambodians.
