Vietnam-U.S. to boost cooperation in war consequence relief
PANO – The U.S. wants to promote defense cooperation with Vietnam, especially in addressing war consequences, making contribution to strengthening mutual trust and understanding and fostering the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
The statement was made by U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink at a reception given for him by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Vietnamese Deputy Defense Minister, on February 23 at the Headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense.

The U.S. Ambassador said that Vietnam is an important partner of the U.S. in the region and stressed that cooperation in defense and security features highlights in the U.S.-Vietnam bilateral relations.
At the reception, General Vinh emphasized core defense cooperation contents reached by Vietnamese Minister of Defense, General Ngo Xuan Lich and his U.S. counterpart James Mattis during the latter's recent visit to Vietnam in January. He added that the two sides should realize agreed agreements and expand cooperation fields and he also expressed the hope that the U.S. side will continue efforts in cleaning dioxin-contaminated soil at Danang International Airport and soon begin a project of the dioxin contamination remediation at Bien Hoa Air Base area.
