General Luong Cuong holds talks with Lieutenant General (now Senior Lieutenant General) Thongloi Silivong, member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Deputy Defense Minister, Director of the General Department of Political Affairs of the Lao People's Army during his official visit to Vietnam in March 2019.

The visit is taking place when the two countries and militaries are organizing many meaningful activities in the framework of the “Vietnam - Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022” in celebration of the 60th anniversary of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties (September 5, 1962) and 45 years of their Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (July 18, 1977).

It can be affirmed that Vietnam and Laos have always supported each other during their resistance wars against foreign invaders as well as in the cause of national construction and development of each side.

Despite complicated developments in the region and the world, the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos have been increasingly cultivated and developed in all fields.

As defense cooperation is considered an important pillar in the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, the Party and political work is one of the important cooperation fields between the two militaries. Over the past time, the cooperation between the VPA’s GDP and the GDP of the Lao People’s Army has been comprehensively and effectively implemented.

Accordingly, both sides have disseminated information about the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two parties, states, militaries and peoples. Especially, they have successfully held the first Vietnam-Laos border defense friendship exchange and other activities in the framework of the “Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022.”

In addition, they have also sent working delegations to visit, work and share experience in the Party and political work. Besides, the search, collection, repatriation, and identification of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and advisors who died in Laos during wartime have also been conducted effectively.

Furthermore, the bilateral cooperation in personnel training has also seen remarkable achievements. The two militaries have jointly built many important projects, such as the Political Theory School and the National Culture School for the Lao People’s Army, which has become a symbol of the bilateral defense cooperation in general and cooperation in Party and political work in particular.

Meanwhile, they have also promoted solidarity and friendship among the two militaries and peoples, especially those who are living and stationed along the shared borderline.

On the basis of these outstanding outcomes, the visit of the Vietnamese delegation, led by General Luong Cuong, to Laos is expected to be a success, contributing to the development of the special solidarity relationship between the two parties, states, militaries and peoples.
