Through the Cuban guest, the Vietnamese defense chief sent his regards to Senior Lieutenant General Álvaro López Miera, Minister of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces. Sharing the difficulties and challenges facing the Cuban people due to the effects of the embargo and sanctions as well as the recent incidents and natural disasters, General Phan Van Giang affirmed that the Party, State, people and military of Vietnam are always ready to give support to Cuba within their capabilities like Cuba once helped Vietnam with the spirit “For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to shed its blood.”

For his part, Sr. Lt. Gen. Roberto Legrá Sotolongo emphasized the special solidarity and friendship between the two countries, which was founded by Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh and Cuban leader Fidel Castro and nurtured by generations of leaders of the two parties, states, people and militaries.
The Cuban general also cited Cuban leader Fidel Castro’s immortal statement as saying that “For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to shed its blood,” which expressed Cuba’s special affection for the Southeast Asian country.
He conveyed the regards of Sr. Lt. Gen. Álvaro López Miera to General Phan Van Giang and informed the host of the outcomes of his earlier talks with Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defense Minister.
Highly appreciating the talks’ outcomes, General Phan Van Giang stressed that the Vietnamese MND leaders always create the best conditions and direct its agencies and units to implement contents reached by the two sides in a practical and effective manner.

The same day, Director of the General Department of Political Affairs (GDP) General Luong Cuong received Sr. Lt. Gen. Roberto Legrá Sotolongo.
Given the current complicated developments in the world, General Luong Cuong suggested the two sides promote solidarity, further support each other, especially in political and ideological education, building political and spiritual factors for the military, fostering of revolutionary ideals, patriotism, love of socialism for troops as well as improving leadership capability and combat strength of military party organizations.
The Vietnamese GDP director evaluated that the two militaries have paid due attention to boosting cooperation in Party and political work. He confirmed that the GDP will continue direct agencies and units to substantively and effectively actualize agreed contents and the memorandum of understanding on cooperation and sharing of experience in Party and political work in the military signed last December.
Briefing General Luong Cuong upon his talks with Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong, Sr. Lt. Gen. Roberto Legrá Sotolongo underlined the willingness to enhance cooperation in Party and political work in the military, especially disseminating and educating troops of the two militaries about the special solidarity and friendship between the two parties, states, and militaries.
