In his opening remarks, Senior Colonel Tran Van Tho, Commander of the Coast Guard Region 1 Command under the Vietnam Coast Guard, expressed his sincere thanks for the sentiments of Major General Yu Zhong and the China Coast Guard delegation towards the command.

During the working session, Senior Colonel Tho briefed delegates on the functions and tasks of the Coast Guard Region 1 Command. Established in 1998, the command has successfully conducted a large number of patrols to firmly safeguard national sovereignty and jurisdiction, and maintain law enforcement. Meanwhile, the command has paid much attention to search and rescue work and coast guards have stayed ready for the missions.

Additionally, Senior Colonel  Tho asked for the permission of both sides to set up a communication line between the Coast Guard Region 1 Command of the Vietnam Coast Guard and the China Coast Guard's Nanhai bureau. The hotline will create conditions for the two units to share information and experience on law enforcement and professional expertise, thus fostering bilateral friendship and solidarity.

For his part, Major General Yu Zhong was delighted at the warm welcome of the Coast Guard Region 1 Command and the thorough preparations of the Vietnam Coast Guard for the first “Vietnam Coast Guard and Friends” exchange in 2022.

He underlined the coordination between the two countries’ coast guard forces plays a vital role in boosting bilateral cooperation in defense and maritime security, hoping that the two sides would enhance cooperation to further deepen ties between the two forces.

After the meeting, the China Coast Guard delegation visited the Regional Command Center, the Regional Command, and Squadron 112’s Port under Flotilla 11.
