PANO - Western Australia Minister of Education Peter Collier MLC announced a series of scholarships, valued at more than VND 6 billion, to be granted to Vietnamese students, who desire to study in this Australian state, at a media conference in Hanoi on October 1st.

The conference was held within the framework of the Western Australia Education Mission’s visit to Hanoi, with the aim of boosting studies and cooperation between universities of this Australian state and Vietnam.

Specifically, universities in Western Australia reserve VND 4.9 billion for excellent high-school students, while Murdoch University will present a VND 1.1 billion PhD scholarship via the Vietnam Academy of Forest Sciences. Curtin University will cooperate with the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization’s Regional Training Centre (SEAMEO RETRAC) to grant scholarships, worth a total of VND 320 million, to graduates studying Master’s degrees in applied linguistics.

Meanwhile, the University of Notre Dame and Edith Cowan University will continue presenting scholarships to Vietnamese graduates studying Master’s or PhD degrees in Western Australia.

With these newly-announced scholarships, universities in Western Australia will spend more than VND 15 billion granting scholarships to Vietnamese students.

Perth, the capital and the largest city of Western Australia, welcomes more than 50,000 international students a year. At present, as many as 2,028 Vietnamese students are studying in universities in Perth.

At the media conference, the Western Australia Minister of Education stressed the important role of Vietnamese students in Perth’s diversification of students and expressed his pride and commendation for their contributions to Perth in particular and Western Australia in general.
