Vietnam commits itself to continue contributing to U.N. peacekeeping operations
PANO – Vietnam is willing to make active contribution to the U.N. peacekeeping operations in the time to come, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son affirmed at a reception for U.N. Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix, who was on an official visit to Vietnam to attend the international conference on women with the U.N. peacekeeping operations, in Hanoi on November 25.
At the event, Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his hope to continue receiving professional supports from the U.N. and partner countries in the time to come.

He noted that Vietnam always tries to enhance the U.N. peacekeeping operations in close connection with local communities to build trust and gather supports from them to ensure the effectiveness of U.N. peacekeeping operations.
In turn, U.N. Under-Secretary-General Jean-Pierre Lacroix expressed his delight at visiting Vietnam and highly praised initiatives and responsibilities of Vietnamese peacekeepers in the U.N. missions. He underlined that Vietnam’s participation has contributed to significantly improving the effectiveness of the operation of the U.N. missions and offered practical experience for peacekeeping forces of other countries.
The U.N. official also expressed his impression on Vietnam’s important contribution to programs of the U.N. Security Council in the 2020-2021 period in particular and the U.N. in general, especially the Women, Peace and Security Agenda (WPS Agenda).

He hoped the Vietnamese side will make further contribution to the U.N. peacekeeping operations and reaffirmed to continue supporting the country in building capacity and preparing forces to join U.N. peacekeeping missions.
At the reception, the two sides also shared the same views on the global situations which witness numerous challenges and competitions, and realized non-traditional threats like climate change and pandemic, which have had bad impacts to the U.N. peacekeeping operations in particular and international cooperation in general. Both sides agreed to continue enhancing multilateral cooperation within the framework of the U.N., improving the quality of U.N. peacekeeping operations as a practical mean to maintain international peace and security.
