Timor Leste is keen on learning national development experience from Vietnam as well as enhance bilateral win-win cooperation, President Taur Matan Ruak told new Vietnamese Ambassador to Timor Leste, Hoang Anh Tuan on September 27.
In a reception for the Ambassador following his presentation of the letter of credentials, the Timor Leste President praised Vietnam’s achievements in the “Doi moi” (renewal) process, economics, international integration and social welfare.

The President noted that Vietnam is one of the first countries to recognize Timor Leste’s independence and support its bid to become a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Vietnam is also assisting Timor Leste in economic development, he said, highlighting the Telemor mobile phone network invested by Vietnam’s Viettel Group, which is the biggest system with the best service in Timor Leste.
President Taur Matan Ruak stressed that the two nations share the common goals of maintaining peace and stability in the region and building a united and prosperous Southeast Asia, he said.
Ambassador Hoang Anh Tuan pledged to do his utmost to further the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Timor Lester, especially bilateral partnership in economics, trade, investment and tourism.
He added that Vietnam will actively coordinate with other ASEAN member states to support Timor Lester’s engagement in the bloc.
