This year marks the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-UNICEF cooperation and the 35th anniversary of Vietnam's ratification of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child, Mai said, adding that over the years, UNICEF has accompanied and provided timely support for Vietnam in line with each stage of development of the country.
The Communist Party of Vietnam identifies that the care, education, and protection of children are a central focus in human resources development. Therefore, investing in children is a crucial task for Vietnam to become a high-income developed country by 2045, he said.

Regarding upcoming tasks in child care, education, and protection, Mai suggested that UNICEF in Vietnam enhance information exchange and sharing with his commission. He affirmed the commission is willing to cooperate with relevant agencies to popularize information on the development of relations between Vietnam and the United Nations in general, and UNICEF in Vietnam in particular.
In addition to signing the cooperation program with the commission for the 2025-2030 period, UNICEF in Vietnam will assist in giving advice to implementing, monitoring, and reviewing the Politburo's Directive No. 28-CT/TW on enhancing the care, education, and protection of children to meet the country's requirements as well as related resolutions and directives.
In the near future, UNICEF will support and coordinate the organization of a workshop to give opinions on the draft documents of the 14th National Party Congress regarding child care, education, and protection.
For her part, the UNICEF Representative in Vietnam emphasized that Vietnam's policies, laws, efforts, and achievements in protecting and caring for children are highly regarded by the international community. The sector of child care, protection, and education is always a top priority in Vietnam's development policies.
Danailov noted that the Politburo's Directive No. 28-CT/TW reflects the Party and State's commitment to child care, education, and protection in the new situation, providing comprehensive and focused sustainable development directions.
Expressing her pleasure to give opinions to the draft documents of the 14th National Party Congress regarding child care, education, and protection, Danailov showed her interest in three areas, namely opportunities and challenges of children amid scientific and technological development, particularly digital transformation; key solutions for child care and protection in the face of climate change; and policy frameworks to continue prioritizing children's needs in the upcoming period.
Highlighting the adoption of the Law on Justice for Minors and Decree No.110/2024/ND-CP on social work, Danailov expressed her hope that Vietnam's ministries, sectors, and localities will continue to expand the child-friendly model at the provincial/city and community levels, while committing to working closely and effectively with Vietnamese ministries, sectors, and localities to promote the joint cooperation program.
