At the working session, the two sides discussed measures to deepen academic collaboration between KKU and Vietnamese educational institutions. Key areas of interest included expanding Vietnamese-language teaching at KKU and fostering joint research on Mekong-related issues, culture, education, and knowledge exchange between the two countries.
A highlight of the discussion was the proposal to establish a Vietnam Studies Centre within KKU’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Designed as a comprehensive “hub of learning” on Vietnam, the center would focus on the country’s language, history, culture, society and regional academic cooperation. In the coming period, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Khon Kaen and Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training will continue working with KKU leaders to advance this initiative.
The visit marked an important step in strengthening academic foundations between the two countries and is expected to promote long-term collaboration in research on Vietnam in Thailand.
Founded in 1964, KKU is the first higher education institution in Thailand’s Northeastern region and remains its most prominent academic center. Located on a 900-hectare campus, KKU is recognized as a leading national research university and a key educational institution within the Greater Mekong Subregion.
KKU is globally ranked in several disciplines, particularly health sciences, public health, science and technology, social sciences and business administration. The university currently comprises 19 faculties, three colleges, one university-level school and multiple research institutes, with a student population of more than 40,000 across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
