At the reception, General Chien affirmed that Vietnam always attaches much importance to the relations with the U.S., considering the U.S. one of the leading partners in many fields, especially in overcoming war-left consequences which contributes to promoting mutual trust and bilateral cooperation.

In the coming time, Vietnam hopes the U.S. will promote cooperation in the field of dealing with war aftermath, including mobilizing resources for dioxin contamination remediation at Bien Hoa and Phu Cat airports; coordinate to evaluate the results of dioxin treatment at A So Airport (A Luoi district, Thua Thien Hue province), among others.

Regarding the search and collection of Vietnamese war martyr’s remains, Vietnam urged the U.S. to effectively implement signed cooperation contents, focusing on exchanging information related to Vietnamese war martyrs, sharing experience and support equipment for Vietnam to better perform the task.

For his part, Mr. Tim Rieser highly appreciated the bilateral cooperation over the past time, including dioxin contamination remediation, bomb and mine clearance, and supporting Vietnamese people with disabilities. He added that the U.S. commits itself to continuing accelerating cooperation with Vietnam in this field in the coming time. Mentioning cooperation in search and collection of Vietnamese war martyrs’ remains, the U.S. will keep sharing information with Vietnam.

On this occasion, he noted that Senator Patrick Leahy will visit Vietnam at the end of October 2022 to review the bilateral cooperation in overcoming war aftermath, and map out cooperation orientations in the coming time, especially the implementation of the two countries’ on-going projects.
