At the reception, the NA leader emphasized the importance of the Singaporean delegation’s visit to Vietnam and the signing of a memorandum of understanding on information exchange between the Supreme Court of Singapore and the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam.
She held that their visit’s agenda will further contribute to further expanding the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The Vietnamese top legislator highly valued a previous working session between the Supreme Court of Singapore and the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam, while saying that Vietnam successfully completed a pilot project on reconciliation and the country is building a Draft Law on Mediation, Dialogue at the Court.
Ngan underlined that Vietnam and Singapore have established the strategic partnership, thus they should promote exchange of delegations at all levels as well as people-to-people exchanges.
As many Singaporean businesses and investors have successfully been operating in Vietnam, the bilateral judicial cooperation will contribute to benefiting the two countries in the fields of economy, trade, investment, and tourism.
Lauding achievements of Singapore’s legal and judicial system, the host stressed that the Vietnamese NA supports judicial reforms and improvement of the court system and encourages the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam to boost exchanges and experience sharing with international partners, especially those in ASEAN, including Singapore.
She also took this occasion to support and applaud the ASEAN courts’ establishment of the Council of ASEAN Chief Justices (CACJ) to serve as an ASEAN connecting institution, aside from the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), making contribution to the development of the ASEAN Community built upon the three cooperation pillars of Politico-security, Economy, and Socio-culture.
For his part, Singaporean Chief Justice Menon said that Vietnam has become an increasingly attractive destination for foreign investors and believed that Vietnam will uphold this strength when it takes the Chair of ASEAN in 2020.
The guest added that the CACJ will organize an annual meeting to discuss and map out new solutions to expand cooperation among its members.
