UN supports climate change response in Vietnam
PANO – The United Nations Development Program (UNDP), in association with the General Department of Disaster Prevention under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Department of Housing Management and Real Estate Market under the Ministry of Construction, have handed over 107 flood-resistant houses to poor and vulnerable households in Thua Thien-Hue province.
Addressing the event, Akiko Fujii, UNDP Country Director for Vietnam said, "Low-cost safe houses can save lives and help communities better prevent disasters."
She added that those houses were built with additional features to withstand the effects of climate change and extreme weather conditions.
Thua Thien-Hue is one of the localities in the project "Strengthening resilience to the impact of climate change on vulnerable coastal communities in Vietnam" in the 2017-2021 period, financed by the UN Green Climate Fund via the UNDP.
